What is Energy Bill Relief?
The Commonwealth Government is partnering with states and territories to deliver $3 billion of targeted electricity bill relief to eligible Australian households and small businesses under the Energy Bill Relief plan.
The eligible criteria have been increased to include other concessions.
What are Residential customers entitled to?
VICTORIA
- $250 for eligible households. This is in addition to any existing VIC energy concession.
NEW SOUTH WALES
- $500 for eligible households. This is in addition to any existing NSW energy rebates.
QUEENSLAND
- $700 for vulnerable customers who receive the existing $372 (total $1,072)
- $550 for all other QLD households.
SOUTH AUSTRALIA
- $500 for eligible households. This is in addition to any existing SA energy concession.
ACT
- $175 for eligible households. This is in addition to any existing ACT energy concession.
What are Business customers entitled to?
VICTORIA
- $325 for eligible small businesses with an energy consumption less than 100 MWh.
NEW SOUTH WALES
- $650 for eligible small businesses with an energy consumption less than 100 MWh.
QUEENSLAND
- $650 for eligible small businesses with an energy consumption less than 100 MWh.
SOUTH AUSTRALIA
- $650 for eligible small businesses with an energy consumption less than 100 MWh.
ACT
- $325 for eligible small businesses with an energy consumption less than 100 MWh.
If you currently receive a concession
There is nothing for you to do. If you currently receive an energy concession on your bills, the Energy Bill Relief payment will be automatically applied.
Any payment will be made to:
- Customers who receive an existing energy concession
- All households in Queensland with an active electricity account
If you do not currently receive a concession
If you don’t receive a concession, however you are eligible for a payment under the Energy Bill Relief plan, Services Australia or the Department of Veterans’ affairs will contact you.
Once you have followed their instructions we will be able to confirm your eligibility and apply the payment to your electricity account.

Other rebates or concessions
There are other rebates and concessions available to you. Details of those are found below.
I have solar installed, and my account is in credit, can I still receive this payment?
Yes. If you are eligible to receive the Energy Bill Relief payment, the funds will be applied to your account,
even if your bill is already in credit.
Is this payment in addition to my existing concessions?
Yes. The payment will be applied in addition to your current concessions. It will not affect the calculation of the concessions that you receive.
Further State information
Victoria
Victorian customers can apply for assistance from the Utility Relief Grant Scheme (URGS) if they are unable to pay their energy bills due to a short-term financial crisis or emergency.

New South Wales customers can apply for Energy Accounts Payment Assistance (EAPA). Contact the Department of Industry Resources & Energy.
On 5 July 2023, the NSW Government announced they would increase the EAPA payment limits up to $500 for the 2023-2024 financial year.
South Australia
South Australian customers can apply for assistance from the Emergency Electricity Payment Scheme (EEPS). To apply, you’ll need to visit a financial counselor who’ll assess your situation.

Queensland
Queensland customers can apply for assistance from the Home Energy Emergency Assistance Scheme (HEEAS). Visit the Home Energy Emergency Assistance Scheme | Community support | Queensland Government (www.qld.gov.au).
QLD Government Cost of Living Rebate
The QLD government has delivered further electricity bill support for the 2023–24 Budget for households and small businesses.
- $700 Cost of Living Rebate on electricity bills for vulnerable households, in addition to the existing $372 under the QLD Electricity Rebate Scheme. This will bring the rebate total rebates for this group to $1,072.
- $550 Cost of Living Rebate on electricity bills to all other QLD households.
- $650 rebate on electricity bills for around 205,000 eligible small businesses.
