2024 Federal Government Energy Bill Relief Fund

The Federal Government has launched a new initiative to provide electricity bill rebates for all Australian households and eligible small businesses.

Who is Eligible for the Rebate?

Households:

Every Australian residential household will receive a $300 rebate, distributed in quarterly payments.

Small Businesses:

Eligible small businesses will receive a $325 rebate, also distributed quarterly.

Residential Customers

As a residential customer, you don't need to take any action to receive the rebate. It will be automatically credited to your electricity bill in quarterly instalments starting from 1 July 2024. The timing will vary based on your billing cycle.

Small Business Customers

Eligible small businesses with annual electricity consumption at or below the specified threshold will automatically receive the rebate starting from 1 July 2024.

Small businesses exceeding the consumption threshold set by their state or territory will not qualify for the rebate. The timing of the payment will depend on your billing cycle.

Annual Electricity Consumption Thresholds by State:

  • NSW: 100 MWh
  • VIC: 40 MWh
  • QLD: 100 MWh
  • SA: 160 MWh
  • ACT: 100 MWh

Queensland Customers

Residential customers in Queensland are eligible for an additional $1,000 off their electricity bill, in addition to the Energy Relief Rebate. This amount will be automatically credited to eligible residential customer bills starting from 1 July 2024.

To qualify, residential customers must have an electricity account with their electricity retailer or embedded network provider as of 1 July 2024 and be separately metered and charged for their own electricity consumption.

There is no need to apply. The exact timing will depend on individual billing cycles. For more information, please visit the Cost of Living Rebate for Households | Community support | Queensland Government.
